How It Works

St. Philip Day School (SPDS) is a Christian-based childcare cooperative serving low-income families with children from 8 weeks to 3 years old. Each class at SPDS is guided by a skilled Lead Teacher with specialized training in infant and toddler development.
In addition to professional instruction, SPDS offers a unique opportunity for parents: by volunteering one day per week as a Parent Educator, families receive five full days of free childcare, allowing parents to pursue employment or further their education.
Below is an example of a typical weekly schedule for an SPDS class of 10 children.

Required Training For Participating Parents

Parents will be required to complete online coursework through Childcare Institute, totaling 24 hours.
Satisfactory completion of the required training qualifies a parent to serve as a Parent Educator.
Parents must complete this training annually to remain in our program.
Additionally, parents must:
         1. Pass a background check
         2. Be CPR certified
         3. Complete parent orientation upon admission to the program, which includes:
  • child abuse and neglect prevention training
  • school’s internal procedures (schedule, feeding and diapering practices, etc.)
  • expectations for conduct, accountability, and consequences for violation of expectations (i.e. unexcused absence, late arrival, failure to complete duties)
  • signing a covenant to abide by all training requirements and internal procedures at the risk of expulsion from the program
